Raised in a trailer park, kicked out of high school and faced with becoming a father in his teens, Jayson Waller’s hustle, heart and toughness allowed him to overcome adversity to become the mogul he is today. Jayson has built three companies from scratch into multimillion-dollar successes with his most recent endeavor, POWERHOME SOLAR has grown to over 1,600 Employees and Nearly $500 Million in Annual Sales.
Jayson thrives on hearing the word no, using the doubt of others as fuel to propel forward. His drive led him to become an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 Southeast Award winner, a successful podcaster and an author.
Growing up in a trailer park, being kicked out of high school and becoming a father in his teens didn’t set Jayson Waller back. In fact, it gave him the hustle and the heart to become the success he is today. From completing paper routes with his father at 4 a.m. to selling lemonade and golf balls in grade school to buy baseball cards and ice cream, Jayson has been an entrepreneur from day one.
After entering corporate America as a teenager, Jayson’s hustle led him to become the top salesperson at companies like AT&T and Verizon. After being passed over for multiple deserved promotions, Jayson decided to take matters into his own hands. He started a business selling home security systems out of his bedroom, running appointments on nights and weekends and scheduling jobs on a tile board.
Jayson went from driving a limousine on weekends to support his young family and his young business to eventually becoming a partner in a second home security business, Power Home Technologies. He helped grow the company to $28 million in annual revenue. After seeing another home security entrepreneur, Vivint’s Todd Pedersen, successfully transition into the solar industry, Jayson felt that it made sense for him to make the same move. In 2014, Power Home Technologies rebranded as POWERHOME SOLAR.

Through his success, Jayson learned to bet on himself. He knew that his new company had the opportunity to bring about positive change for its customers and for the planet. He made the bold choice to sell his North Carolina lake home to give POWERHOME SOLAR the capital it needed to stay afloat in its early months. Fast forward six years later, and Jayson’s risky moves have paid off.
POWERHOME SOLAR has grown to over 1,600 employees and nearly $200 million in annual revenue. In 2020, the company was ranked the seventh residential solar installer in the U.S. by Solar Power World and 255th on Inc. 5000’s list of the fastest-growing private companies in America. In 2019, Jayson was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Emerging Services category, proving that hard work can get you anywhere. Jayson is also an author and host of the successful podcast, True Underdog.
